NYSC Banned Corps Members From Borno, Yobe, Adamawa

The director general of NYSC, categorically, unequivocally stated that any corps member who flouted this directive should be ready to face the consequences of his or her action.

The Director-General of NYSC, Brig-General Johnson Olawumi, stated this in Calabar wenesday, while fielding questions from reporters shortly after the commencement of the annual management conference of the scheme holding in the Cross River State capital.

He said the statement had become necessary following the discovery that some stubborn corps members posted outside the violence-prone states sometimes travelled there to make more money doled out by the three state governments to attract them.

He said until normalcy returned to these three states, the management of NYSC would not post graduates of tertiary educational institutions there as the scheme was not ready to lose any corps member on national assignment to the activities of Boko Haram as witnessed in the past few years.

“The NYSC is mindful of the security situation in the country. The states where we have security challenges we will deliberately not post corps members there. But any corps member who deliberately goes there to serve is doing so on his own volition. They do that on their own because we do not officially send corps members to those troubled states.

“I want to emphasise that those three states are part of Nigeria. Our prayer is that peace returns to those places as soon as possible so that corps members who want to explore those places would have the opportunity of doing so,” the director general said.

Olawumi maintained that the focus of the NYSC programme, given the high level of unemployment in the country, was how to make corps members become self-sufficient after undergoing training on Integrated Entrepreneurship Development (IED) facilitated by the scheme.

“We have repositioned the scheme to address the current unemployment in the country so that after the service year, corps members can become self employed and self reliant. We want them to become useful to themselves rather than being idle after serving their fatherland,” he said.

The Chairman of NYSC Governing Board, Chief Gordon Bozimo, in his speech, said in the last 41 years, the NYSC scheme had contributed meaningfully to Nigeria’s socio-economic development and had undergone transformation, all which had impacted positively on the image of the country.

He revealed that under his leadership in the last one year, the board had taken steps to add value to the operation of the scheme through “the constructive engagement of state governments for sustainable development of physical infrastructure at the orientation camps and provision of other statutory support to the scheme”.

FG Approves N500 Daily Feeding Allowance For Corp Members

heering news emanating from the Director General of the NYSC, Johnson Bamidele Olawumi has it that, from now National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members will receive N500 as daily feeding allowance.

Johnson Bamidele Olawumi asserted that the federal government has approved the N500 as daily feeding allowance.
Johnson Bamidele Olawumi, disclosed this yesterday at a House of Representatives Committee hearing on the N4, 000 online registration fee mandated for corps members, Leadership reports.

A civil society group launched a ‘Say No Campaign’ to protest the registration fee. It was during the hearing that Olawumi made the announcement about the new feeding allowance. He disclosed that the federal government approved N500 as feeding allowance for each corp member per day.

He also disclosed that over N800 million was required to setup the computer registration system the NYSC is presently using for its online registration.

While noting that the N4,000 for the online registration is voluntary, he said rather than request for money to install the infrastructure, he would prefer to canvass for increment of the current N19,800 allowance being to prospective Corp member.

In his presentation, Mr. Ezenwa Nwagwu of ‘Say No Campaign’ called for the “reversal of the proposed N4,000 fee payment and where payment has been made, a refund to the prospective Corp members.”

Nwagwu stressed the need to “re-examine the laws establishing the NYSC that seems to have made the Director General of the Corp an exclusive preserve of serving military officers.”

The committee was given four weeks to submit its report from the public hearing.

Corps Female Member Jailed One Year For Possesssing Fake Documents

A

Convicted and sentenced alongside Helen and equally jailed for one year each are Samuel Obiakor and Segun Alimi, who aided and abetted the first convict in commiting the crime.

Justice Oluwatoyin Ipaye, while handing down the sentence on Monday, said the convicts deserved their punishment notwithstanding their plea bargain because such cases were becoming rampant.

The judge noted that it was the likes of the convicts, who usually brings the name of the nation into disrepute and destroy the chances of other Nigerians with legitimate intentions to travel out.

The convicts were arraigned on one count bordering on use of forged documents in processing Indian visa.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission alleged that they conspired to submit forged documents to the Indian High Commission sometime in 2013 to enable Bando to obtain the country’s visa.

The commission’s lawyer, Paul Bassey, told a Lagos State High in Ikeja that the convicts violated Sections 25(1) (a), 26 (1) (a) and (c) and Section 96(1) (a) of the ICPC Act.

Following their arraignment last week Friday, the trio had immediately pleaded guilty to the crime.

They begged court to temper justice with mercy, saying that they were first time offenders and promised that if set free, they would go and sin no more.

National Youth Service Corps member, Helen Bando, has been jailed for one year for attempting to travel to Indian with fake documents.

NYSC Will Deployed Corps Members For 2015 Election-FG

Director General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brig. Gen. Johnson Olawumi, on Thursday said despite the deadly attacks on corps members during the 2011 election, they will be deployed for election duties across the country during the 2015 election.

He said adequate measures had been put in place to protect the lives of the corp members that would partcipate in the election.
Olawumi, who said this in Ikare-Akoko, Ondo state, at the inauguration of the Batch ‘C’ of the 2014 corps members deployed in Ondo state, said the organization had learnt from the mistakes of 2011 and would be ready to allow corp members to participate in election duties.

According to him, it is the decision of the Federal Government to deploy corps members for the exercise, saying the agreement with the Independent National Electoral Commissin over the issue still stands.

He said, “The decision for corps members to take part in election was taken by government and for the simple reason that they are well dispersed all over the nooks and crannies of the country and I want to state categorically that since corp membrrs have started taken part in elections in Nigeria, our elections have continued to gain credibility.

“The agreement between NYSC and INEC is still there and what that means is that corp members will take part in 2015 elections all over Nigeria whenever election will be held as long as there will be election, they will be part of it. However, I must state clearly that we are not sleeping, we are learning from our past mistakes, we have studied what happened in the last election and we have put measures in place for the safety and security of corp members.

“You can all recall what happened in Ekiti and in Osun, two elections that were adjudged to be very fair and corps members were particularly singled out and commended for all the roles they played in the elections, for this coming election they are eager to go but on our part we have put a lot of measures in place to guarantee their safety and security.”

The Ondo State Coordinator of NYSC, Alhaji Olanrewaju Kuoye, said 2,400 corp members were deployed in the state but 2,395 had registered as at the commencement of the ceremony.

He said the corps members were in high spirit, urging the state government to fulfill its promises of assistance over inadequate hostels and staff quarters in the orientation camp.

The Ondo state governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, congratulated the corp members for the feat and enjoined them not to allow the riggour and challenges of the orientation camp to distract them.

The governor, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth Development and Sports, Dr. Gbenga Adelayi, said government would continue to assist the NYSC in the state to make the stay of the corp members meaningful.

11 Major Reasons Why Phd Take Too Long To Study In Nigeria

1. Nigeria Professor/Lecturers are Wicked

Please if you are a lecturer here, don't be offended but the bad egg are more than the good eggs. Take for example in the school I graduated from (name withheld) a particular lecturer will come to the class with this abnormal and infuriating quote "Nobody can have A's in my course because A" belong to God, B" for extra-ordinary student and C" for brilliant student". Yes! Infact the highest in the class is usually "46, 47 or sometimes "50", he made everyone look dull and silly. I took a bold step one day to challenge him which was later a detriment to my final result "he said when he was in school, the lecturer that thought him that course Never give anybody A". Sorry I digress from the main topic but that is the major problem of Phd in Nigeria. A professor will tell you that before he can get to the level he his now, he know what he pass through, so "a reprisal attack". The truth is, if I get Phd through pain and stress and someone want to get same through me easily, I remember the past and do same to him/her(that is the way we think). I remember one of my favourite lecturer back then in school, after spending 2years studying this unfinished Phd, he was frustrated out after spending money, I ask him what happen "he said he was surprise that after spending energy on his thesis, his supervisor said he cannot find is research work, he should start all over. All over, lol..after 2years..with just 1year is almost through now in australia

2. Professors will explore you

Quote me wrong if you did not face same at your undergraduate level. The high rate of corruption in Nigeria has affected every affairs of the nation including our university system, now adays you can be sleeping at home and be passing your exam if you have what my igbo brother will call "ego". I remember a lecturer too from another school, he said this particular supervisor has been procrastinating the correction of his research work, this very day he thought to himself with frustration "what on earth can I do?" And that Nigeria sense came back to him, he went aftermath to change the four tyre of the supervisor's car including the fueling. He continue by saying "My brother, after doing this, the supervisor look at me on my face and say "you have not been serious with your thesis, have not been seeing you! Let me see what you have done so far. The name of that university is in Lagos (I didn't mention any name now).

3. Phd involves money

Aside the corruption aspect, Phd as to do with an indepth knowledge of a particular problem you are trying to solve. Some research thesis might involves you traveling from state to state, out of the country and do forth, this depend on the nature of the research though, and most of this research work are exploratory in nature. Another fact is that before you can start any Phd work you must atleast publish 3 conference paper in a reputable country and publisher. I remember receiving a mail some month ago inviting me for a conference in paris, that is, I should submit my research work for a conference paper. I try and check the authencity of the mail and confirm it to be genuine but attached to the mail is a pdf file showing the break down in payment " 300 pounds(without accomodation), 450 pounds( with accomodation), if I cannot come due to transportation but still submit my paper(250 pounds). Though some will say is cheap but how about some that cannot afford the money, that is why most P.hd programme in advanced countries are based on scholarship.

4. The assessment of Phd thesis is a large and serious undertaking, it requires a substantial period of uninterrupted time

Our examiner, supervisor too are human not machine, they are busy people with many calls in their time and unforeseen circumstances which may arise in their lives which may delay their assessment and submission of report within the usual time frame

5. I too know syndrome/ Not taking correction

This stuffs affect me a lot when I was in school, no lecturer or supervisor or professor will ever accept that they are wrong especially from those they are supervising or teaching. P.hd in Nigeria is regarding as "I'm an expert in my field" which mean you are to learn from them and not to correct them, even though you are so sure that you are very crystal correct, you need to pretend that you are massively wrong if you want to graduate or get your thesis approved or assessed. Majority of us may this argue this point but I think is also a key factor in Nigeria

6. Spiritual connection

Like it or not it is one of the disease in Nigeria. Let me give you an example " I was listening to a tape by pastor olukoya( a respected man of God, mountain of fire) and he gave an example of a man that has been writing a professional exam for more than 30 years but to no avail, each time he try, something will happen, the invigilator coming might have an accident, a crisis might occur which will make the paper impossible to write(postponed) meanwhile affecting others. When he examine himself he went abroad to write the exam, that same problem keep occurring until when he seek spiritual help and discover that is family is behind him. Some of us are coming from a polygamous family where you are the only one thriving among others such can bring a discord and you discover that a Phd of 2yrs is taking you 25years.

7. Jealousy

This apply to those in the academics already(I mean lecturer). Take for example the polytechnic where I graduated. Every other lecturers in that department have only masters degree while there is this particular one running his Phd programme. This create a serious hatred and backbitting that you will even see in the open, some will even come to the class telling everyone without no shame that "look at him, he is bragging with ego because his doing Phd and talking to his superiors with no respect". My brethren this lecturer never complete that P.hd, they even went ahead to report him for not attending his class for his own personal interest. Let me give you another example, a particular lecturer in a university in the north was also facing similar problem to the extend that no nigeria university want to accept him for Phd because his colleague have blackmail him. He took a wise decision, without informing anybody in the department, he applied in a university in malaysia, the malaysian professor was so surprise that a man they have been reading his journal, textbook never even have a Phd, they told him not to worry that he will give him the Phd in due time. Till now nobody in his school knew his was during a Phd.

8. Research Topics (Thesis Topic)

Majority of us give ourselves an headache of picking a topic you cannot handle, why not pick a narrow topic that you can easily handle and finish in time. This factor contribute to reasons why supervisors keep canceling and canceling till you are frustrated.

9. Lack of proper research guidance given by the research

Without guides, a candidate cannot register for PhD itself

10. Lack of experience of the Researcher pursuing PhD which lead to Lack of interest

Before you embark on any phD programme is better you seek advice from those that have pass through it before you are frustrated out

11. Lack of Grant of permission from the organization you work for.

Not only your organization, quote me wrong "How many Nigeria university have a grant for scholarship?

This are just my own perceived causes which I'm very sure are more than this, should in case you have done your phD thesis you can account your experience here, so that others with such ambition will learn..

Nobody Wants To Marry Us, Employers Reject Us, Our Skin Is A Problem –albinos - Family cries

He was barely one year old when his parents neglected him and parted ways after a serious fight, simply because he was an albino, a rare breed that was contrary to what they had both expected.

Forty years after, Mr. Abdullahi Obafemi, has yet to recover from the painful knowledge that his parents abandoned him. They tossed him between each other until his grandmother, who was living in northern Nigeria, took over his custody.

Obafemi is still haunted by his history, the humiliation and rejection he continues to suffer from the public daily.

“I am my parents’ only child. I learnt their marriage ended abruptly the moment my mother gave birth to me as an albino. In fact, I learnt my mother screamed, Eh! Afin ni mo bi (Ha, I gave birth to an albino) when she saw me.

“While they were busy denying me and fighting over who would take care of me, my grandmother took me away from them,” Obafemi said with a note of sadness.

Growing up was also not easy for Obafemi as he helplessly endured the constant discrimination meted against people like him.

Although albinos are no strange beings as they only lack the pigment that gives colouration to the skin and body parts, called melanin, they are usually discriminated against.

Apart from their skin and brown hair, many albinos suffer from short sight vision, thus, they usually have challenge with seeing objects, whether far or near.

Obafemi recalled his tough experience in school. His bad sight affected his learning in school even when he sat in front of the class.

He said, “I wasn’t seeing things clearly and I couldn’t afford to buy reading glasses. I had to rely on my classmates so I could copy from their notes but they often treated me with disdain. Nobody wanted to move close to an albino.

“Thank God I was brilliant, it was when they saw that I was very good that they came close to me, not because they liked me but they knew I would always solve questions for them so they could pass.”

Despite the resilience and hard work that saw Obafemi through school, getting a good job has remained an elusive desire. He was rejected, abused and humiliated everywhere he looked for job because of his albinism.

Obafemi studied Building Technology at the Yaba College of Technology, Lagos.

“The pains, humiliation and rejection I went through before I could graduate are things I don’t like to remember. It is now more painful that nobody wants to employ me because of my skin and some employers even make jest of me.

“There was a time I applied for a job, and having seen my application, I was invited to write a test. When I got there, one of the interview panel members said, ‘So you are an albino, don’t worry; we will invite you some other time.’

“When I later got a job as a civil servant, I had to learn painting to augment my meagre income and even when people want to give me job, some people would say I wouldn’t see very well because of my eyes. They say I would paint green instead of blue. I lost many jobs because of that too but I got few on compassionate grounds.

“There was a day I went to apply for a security job, I was asked by the company officials how I would see people coming in and I told them I was not blind. But they told me that I was the one who needed security instead, not for me to be a security man.”

Obafemi has had to combat rejection in many ways, including relationship with women.

“Thankfully, I have a nine-year-old son now, who is not an albino, but the family of his mother didn’t allow me to marry her because I was an albino and they said I wasn’t rich enough. However, I am happy I have one already, but I wish I was not an albino, because life would have been easier for me, like others,” he added.

Matthew 6:1-8
WHENEVER YOU PRAY
When you pray, don’t babble on and on as people of other religions do. They think their prayers are answered only by repeating their words again and again. Matthew 6:7, NLT
Prayer is a very important aspect of Christianity. It is the means by which we communicate with God. Jesus in today’s text gave instructions on prayer:
(a) Do not pray that others may see and praise you. The only reward you will gain is the praise from people (verse 5).
(b) Pray to God only, and not to others (verse 6). To pray in the secret means your prayer should be said where your concentration will be on God alone.
(c) Your prayer must not be full of vain repetition (verse 7). We don’t know how we ought to pray or what to pray for. We must allow the Holy Spirit to inspire us in prayer so as to pray aright.
(d) Be conscious of the fact that God knows your needs and He has ready-made provisions for them (verse 8). All you need to do is to ask, and you shall be given.
• Birthday Blessing: “In that day the Lord God Almighty will be a glorious crown, a beautiful wreath for the remnant of his people” Isaiah 28:5

Shocking: A Pro$titut£ shares How She Lures Men & Cuts Off their Private Organs for Money Ritu@ls

She was arrested for hunting male organs which are used for money ritu@ls.

The secondary school dropout has been long successful in carrying out the task by luring men with $£X and at the height of ecstasy, using a razor blade to cut off their private organs.

Sun Newspaper interviewed Uche. She explained how she was caught when she tried to cut a 38 year old man’s manh00d.

“I am a pro$titut£ and I smoke. I have a gang and we specialise in sleeping with men and cutting their manh00d during $£x. We use the manhood for money rituals. I have killed seven men in the hotel in Owerri. They had $£x with me after they have paid me N3, 000 or N5, 000. I would be on top of the man and in the process I would bring out blade and cut off his manh00d.

I do hand over the manh00d to our gang leader. They always promise to pay us N150, 000 for each manh00d we could supply, and which they used for money ritu@l.

The great lesson from two frogs: A must read

This is the story of two frogs. One frog was fat and the other skinny. One day, while searching for food, they inadvertently jumped into a vat of milk. They couldn't get out, as the sides were too slippery, so they were just swimming around.

The fat frog said to the skinny frog, "Brother frog, there's no use paddling any longer. We're just going to drown, so we might as well give up." The skinny frog replied, "Hold on brother, keep paddling. Somebody will get us out." And they continued paddling for hours.

After a while, the fat frog said, "Brother frog, there's no use. I'm becoming very tired now. I'm just going to stop paddling and drown. It's Sunday and nobody's working. We're doomed. There's no possible way out of here." But the skinny frog said, "Keep trying. Keep paddling. Something will happen, keep paddling." Another couple of hours passed.

The fat frog said, "I can't go on any longer. There's no sense in doing it because we're going to drown anyway. What's the use?" And the fat frog stopped. He gave up. And he drowned in the milk. But the skinny frog kept on paddling.

Ten minutes later, the skinny frog felt something solid beneath his feet. He had churned the milk into butter and he hopped out of the vat.

MORAL:- Never give up on your dream… perseverance is all important. If you don't have the desire and the belief in yourself to keep trying after you've been told you should quit, you'll never make it

Meanwhile the couple are keeping under wrap the venue of the church service. But our source revealed that it will hold at one of the RCCG parishes, in Lagos. Reception comes up at Essence Hotel, in Ikoyi.

“Reason for the new date is probably to manage the number of people who will be showing up for the wedding. They are only interested in close family members and friends and have been sending out the new dates via phone calls and texts.

I hear they are also planning a small and private reception party for only about 200 guests at a secret venue on Saturday December 10.” our source said.

According to a press statement released by the Nigerian Defence Headquarters:

A suicide bomber who rammed into a military check point in Bajoga, Gombe State yesterday, failed to achieve his mission. His attempt to escape also failed as he was brought down by vigilant soldiers when he tried to flee after hitting a military Amoured Personnel Carrier with his IED laden Honda car. The explosives which failed to detonate have been evacuated and handed to the police.

Also in Kano, security forces have raided the terrorists’ hideout in Nasarawa Local Government Area leading to the arrest of bomb making experts who are already helping in the investigation into activities of bombers lately. Officers believe that the efforts will yield useful clues.

Troops deployed in all locations of the counter terrorism campaign have been directed to sustain the tempo of operations all through the period of seasonal celebrations and ensure that the intention of terrorists to attack civilian target while avoiding troops is duly frustrated.
